The Feast of the Ascension

The Lord ascended to heaven,

to send the Comforter into the world.

The heavens prepared His throne; the clouds, His royal mount!

The angels were amazed, seeing a Man exalted.

The Father awaits the Son Who is eternally in His bosom!

The Holy Spirit commands the angels:

“Lift up your heads, O gates!

Clap your hands, all nations,

For Christ has ascended to where He was before!”

Seeing Your Ascension, O Giver of Life,

the Apostles mourned and wept:

“Master, do not leave us, Your servants, as orphans,

whom You have loved in Your compassion,

but send down on us Your Holy Spirit as You promised,

Who will illumine our souls!”

Ascension

A strange thing happens today: Man enters Heaven and is worshipped.  Man enters Heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.  Christ is our humanism, a true humanism.

CS Lewis

"Of course I pray for the dead. The action is so spontaneous, so all but inevitable, that only the most compulsive theological case against it would deter men. And I hardly know how the rest of my prayers would survive if those for the dead were forbidden”

You are what you eat.

I am tired today. I am also beginning to think that a diet consisting of popsicles and coffee is not a healthy diet by any standards. Food is an interesting thing, though. Food was the fall of man.

I am a creature of habits when it comes to eating, and not picky in the least. I am happy with cereals, hummus, peanut-butter and soymilk. I imagine that almost a third of what I eat consists of these foods; more than a third if you count the addition of these foods to other foods (i.e. peanut-butter on bananas).

Oh, yes. I like nuts as well.

I am also a fan of diet soda (gross, I know).

Food was the fall of man but food is also the life of man. I suppose that food became the fall of man when man attempted to use it out of greed instead of thanksgiving. And now man walks both paths. Some food is eaten in thanksgiving while other food is eaten in greed, addiction, apathy, boredom or sheer negligence of the communion of life that is food.

It should be noted that the Son of Man gave us food for our salvation.
